Nashville's Jubilee School Holds Spring Quarter Recital, Kids Guitar Class Orientation

On Thursday, the Jubilee School in Nashville, Tenn., held its 2015 Spring Quarter Recital, inviting the community to watch performances by the school's guitar and vocal class students and faculty. The school also used the event as an opportunity to reach out to parents interested in enrolling their children in the school's kids guitar class program.
The recital started with vocal performances by two students performing 'Overwhelmed' by Big Daddy Weave, and the hymn 'Be Thou My Vision' respectively This was followed by a faculty performance from vocal professor Erica Smith who performed 'Revelation Song,' accompanied on the guitar by professor Mark Godwin.
A guitar student then performed a rendition of 'Riviera Paradise' by Stevie Ray Vaughn on the electric guitar, followed by a special orientation of antique instruments by professor Godwin who played the ancient Arabic instrument Ud, the medieval European instrument Lud, and the classical guitar, with time appropriate compositions ranging from the 8th Century to the 18th Century.
Professor Godwin also brought along two additional students to perform, one nine year old who were just beginning to learn the classical guitar, and an older student who is heading to Stanford University this fall, playing the classical guitar professionally. This helped give visitors an orientation of how the guitar classes help develop the students from beginners to professional musicians.
Following the recital, students and faculty were presented with flowers, and visitors were invited to stay for refreshments and receive more information about the kids guitar class program, which begins on July 6.
