Jubilee Chorus and Nyack College Chorale Celebrate Lenten through Special concert

Apr 15, 2014

Jubilee Chorus, along with the Nyack College Chorale, and the Nyack College Christian Ensemble, delivered a breathtaking performance this past Friday at the Eloheim Christian Church in Richmond Hill, New York.
The night was filled with music that took audience members on a spiritual and emotional ride, with moments of grace, joyfulness, melancholy, excitement, serenity, and humility. Through song, all three choirs were able to touch each person in the room, and remind everyone why the night was special; the remembrance of the Lenten season and God's sacrifice.

The evening began with the Jubilee Chorus opening up the night with a performance of Jesus Has Lifted the Load, a piece that was arranged by Jubilee Chorus member, David Han.The Nyack College Chorale and the Christian Folk Ensemble performed a repertoire of various music that began with The Prayer of Desmond Tutu (James Whitbourn), conducted by Dr. Elizabeth Swanson, followed by Anthem Of Praise (Richard Smallwood), conducted by Professor Willana Mack. These performances set the stage for James Whitbourne's work, Son of God Mass, which was performed by all three choirs. The performance of Whitbourn's work brought a hush in the church, as everyone was truly in a moment of grace.

The Christian Folk Ensemble, under the direction of Professor Jhasoa Agosto and Professor Willana Mack, also delivered soulful performances such as I Stand and I will Bless the Lord at all Times. Additionally, songs were sung in Latin and Spanish from the various choirs that reinforced each choir's unique diversity.
Many audience members were on their feet throughout these various performances, shedding light on how the spirit of Christ was truly in the church that evening.

One audience member by the name of Maureen states, "I felt goose bumps throughout the whole evening. I was truly inspired."

Dr. Elizabeth Swanson who conducts both the Jubilee Chorus and Nyack Chorale also expressed her sentiments about the evening stating, "The Jubilee Chorus' ministry at Elohim Christian Church in Queens on Friday, April 11 touched many hearts. Those who were in attendance had warm and positive comments about the mission of the Jubilee Chorus and the special fact that the group's diversity and common love for Christ, inspired them."

Overall, it was a special night for many reasons, including the fact that all three choirs were together for a special moment in time, to reflect on the true purpose of the night; which was to give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ, for His unique sacrifice, for us all.

In love and Faith,
Muriel Samedy
